History: HistoryPersonality: Often times fandom will say that Nepeta Leijon and Meulin Leijon are the exact same, and this is completely wrong. It is true that as people from the same bloodline, the two share some traits in common (just as Meulin also does with her alternate self, The Disciple) but all three characters are individuals with their own personality.
The things that Meulin does share with the other two Leos are this: they are all very sweet people, especially when you consider they are trolls. Meulin is the type to always consider the emotions of others, and who takes pleasure in making them happy. She is an open minded girl who was never turned off by Meenah's brusque nature or Kurloz's rather ominous air. In life and in death she has always been patient and forgiving--the problem is, that unlike the other Leos, she is
too kind and forgiving. She has never begrudged Kurloz for making her deaf. Despite the fact that Meenah brought up the subject of having attempted to kill her several times, she didn't seem especially perturbed by it, nor did she hold it against her. There is also the issue of Kurloz, her former matesprit controlling her. We don't know how long this has been going on for but it is possible it has been a long time since every time he does it, she loses her memory, and she mentions to Meenah that she does not recall those instances in which she tried to kill her. After so long you would think Meulin would have caught on that something is up, but she'd rather not believe that Kurloz would do something to her.
In fact Meulin seems to evade any sort of negativity like the plague. Instead of showing anger and hurt where she should, she just smiles on. Her advice to Horuss, her moirail, is "to always smile no matter how bad he is feeling" so it's easy to assume that she does the same. When Meenah brings up the issue of them dying again, she just goes on talking about ships (though admittedly that could also be because she didn't hear her). Instead of handling reality Meulin just emmerses herself in her fandoms and ships. When they say that Meulin is a fangirl, it is meant in the utmost literal way possible. While I definitely want to work on making her more, in many ways Meulin is a joke--she is, as some say, the fandom section of tumblr personified. She squees over her ships, talks about HER FEELS, and how she 'no longer can'. She's been shown to use reaction gifs from Sailor Moon, Doctor Who, Adventure Time, Colbert, and so forth.
Essentially she is a hyperactive, empathetic and earnest fangirl who is refusing to acknowledge a lot of deep-seated fears and insecurities he has. Karkat himself put it best when he said that many of the trolls of her generations seemed like they were stuck as teens--have died when they were such, and have not been able to grow up. They mask their fears and worries behind some sort of gimmick (in Meulin's case her obsession with ships and fandoms) and need to learn to grow past that.
Abilities/Weaknesses: At this point it is a little unclear what Meulin's powers are exactly. She is the Mage of Heart which means she has some level of manipulation over the hearts or "souls" of people. At one point she tells Meenah that she may sway Karkat in her direction if she'd like but what this would involve exactly was never said. Whether it was literally manipulating his heart to make him like her or simply influencing it. Heart powers have also been shown to allow some level of astral projection, but that was under a different title which meant the powers were being used differently.
Until anything is proven straight in canon I will simply see it as her being able to know the hearts of people--aka be empathetic on a supernatural level.
It is also possible that she has reached what is called godtier status in her canon, though for now I will assume not since again it is not clear.
That aside Meulin seems to be an ok enough fighter. The Beforus trolls as a whole do not seem all that strong, considering they were never able to beat SGRUB, but Meenah also mentioned how she tried to kill Meulin several times (implying she failed). So she isn't especially strong, but likely she knows how to hold her ground long enough to flee. It is hard to say exactly since Meulin doesn't recall any of those times Meenah tried to kill her, so there is a chance there was something else going on there.
RP Samples: Example oneExample Two: When Meulin had first arrived she had been excited. A village straight out of a fairy tale! A majestic castle ruled by a beautiful Queen! These all seemed like they were the beginnings of a happy and new life.
Then she actually entered the castle and got a look around, then she actually met the Queen--or Mistress, rather. It dashed those hopes of beautiful princesses, brave knights and courtly love asunder rather quickly. Sex had never been that big a deal for Meulin but having it so blatantly displayed everywhere was a bit of a different story. The fact that even the books around here tended to act in lewd manners sort of just topped off how ridiculous this all was. Meulin was all for ripping pailing of the bad stigma is seemed to carry, but even she had her limits! This was coming from the girl who may or may not have written some less than vanilla fiction of her own friends.
Maybe.
Yet in the end Meulin had to acquiesce that she didn't regret coming here. Or being brought here. Or whatever had happened to make her wind up here, she still wasn't sure. Being alive again, and actually being able to live as opposed to just
exist was wonderful. She had never really even realized just how terrible the situation was--doing the exact same thing day in and day out, having to relieve the exact same memories again and again.
For as weird and uncomfortable as this place was, it was also invigorating. It gave her a future, and it gave her the respite she really needed from SGRUB and all its machinations.
